Re: Capture of 11th US Inf flag by Cobb's Legion

Bryan,

An interesting account. In looking at the maps book of Gettysburg by Bradley Gottfried, I cannot see where Wofford's GA Brigade (with Cobb's Legion Infantry Battalion) got close enough to take the flag of the 11th US Infantry (Burbank's Brigade). This was not at either Round Top by the way, but north of them from the Peach Orchard to the Stony Hill. Wofford's troops advanced right down the road to the SE of the Wentz Farm. From the accounts in this book, the US Regulars got routed being hit on three sides (Sweitzer's PA Brigade and Day's US Regulars Brigade were with Burbank) and what may have happened was the 11th US flag was left on the field.

Wofford's Brigade continued their attack a little later but faced different Union troops.
