Actually, co. G of the 35th/22nd contained a number of men of Gratiot's 3rd (2nd) co. G. But I can't argue that the designation of the 3rd on their POW records relates to their previous service under Gratiot.
The bio of Levi Whitfield Thomas in the Confederate Veteran says he was at Pea Ridge. I find no evidence to support that but it is conceivable he may have been with the 17th Ark under Rector/Griffith. As you know, the flag of the 22nd Ark shows "Oak Hill" and "Elk Horn" which, of course, both pre-date the formation of the 22nd/35th under Rector/King.
I wonder if the average soldier had trouble keeping up with the numerical designation of his regiment!
