What a coincidence that, after a lengthy period of medical issues and procedures, I finally felt good enough to resume my Civil War interests today and found your message to me.

As I recall, the source of the "Frontier Guards" roster I posted was the papers of Miss Clara Bertha Eno. She was an old maid who spent her entire life of nearly 100 years documenting the history of Crawford County, Arkansas. She was about 7 years old when the war broke out, and claimed to have a clear memory of the departure of Crawford County volunteers for the front in 1861. Among her papers were a few rosters, including that of the "Frontier Guards". As I recall, the roster was taken from a roll of soldiers who constituted the company on the day it departed Van Buren for Camp Walker. The roster I saw was a transcription in her own hand, taken, apparently, from one published in a local newspaper -- at least it has that look. It might be a transcription from an original roll, but I kind of doubt it. For the life of me, I cannot recall where her papers are archived. I was scrambling around all over the State back in those days, looking at archives in Little Rock, county court-houses, colleges, etc., and I just don't remember where I transcribed her papers. You might be able to track them down on-line.

I agree that the POW record in question is in error. Not at all unusual, as you are well aware. I remember researching the capture of Island No. 10 many years ago, and found that many of the men captured there were listed as having been captured at Fort Donelson, both affairs being fairly close in time, and the prisoners from each sent to the same POW camp.
