Re: Parade Ground at Monticello Arkansas

I'm afraid that the location of Rough and Ready would not be suitable for thousands of men to drill and march. Walker's Texas Division states the ground selected was North of Monticello while General Churchill said the Review would be held at the parade ground selected on the Gaines landing Road. Most of the troops probably didn't even know where they were so accuracy may be misleading. The big question is which road leading out of Monticello was called the Gaines landing Road? Could it be present day Gaines Street or could it be the Old Troy Road that meets Midway Route by the site of the Rough and ready Courthouse. Any information is appreciated for my research and forthcoming publication.
