Did he ever see any action after he was 'drafted' (conscribed)? How would I find out ? Do you think he might have shot at a few Yankees when Admiral Farragut came through? being a Boykin myself I can't imagine him not having at least a little desire to jump into the fight as seems to be evident in his application for a position as a Major. His older brother Frank was apparently fighting and James served in the Mexican War as well. It was family tradition.
