The information that he surrendered at Citronell May 14, 1865 and recorded as a Captain and Staff Officer was most likely taken from some Federal POW list. There is no record of his being on active duty, I would assume his position as a Volunteer aide on the General’s staff, corresponded to that of a Captain. Unfortunately, at this late stage of the war, very few actual Confederate records survived.
This may have been previously noted, but will repeat. In the Miscellaneous file there is one card for a J. M. Boykin, Overseer,
with notation:
