Hi again -
I also am confused because I have the date of Nov. 21, 1861 as both the roll and muster date not the 19th. I also have Mobile as the location not Providence, Alabama. It also notes at the bottom *This company subsequently became Lenoir's Independent Company, Alabama Cavalry. As I write this I have pulled out some of my family documents. On 2 or 21, 1862 James receives an order that states:
"Capt. James Boykin commanding company of Alabama Mounted Volunteers will proceed to Dog River and report to Major Hollinqui? Quarter Master will furnish transportation. by order of Psig Genl Wilters?
I also have a Certificate Granting Furlough with the Furlough scratched out and leave of absence inserted. It is dated August 24, 1864. It says Captain James Boykin assigned to duty with Genl. Wiggins ... and says the reason for the 30 day leave is due to cuts and powder burns.
Any information or even a point in a direction to further piece together when he shows up as a staff officer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again.
