This is my first posting but I have enjoyed reading all the info about Caroline Light...both my great grandfathers were in it. Festus Wharton and James Wright. (buried in Greenlawn with Confederate markers.)
I read that Terry is writing a book about Booth....Just in case you didn't know Michael Kaufmann, I'm suggesting that you contact him. He does the "Escape Tour" and wrote the book "American Brutus"....he is the "Booth guru". I have been on two of his tours which end up at the Garrett house site.
I have Mussellman's book and glad that some info in print talks about Thornton's unit. I don't suppose anyone would know any of the specific battles they may have engaged in. Our family history says that when Festus returned home he referred to the "Great Dismal Swamp" and the Chickohominy River. I know that they fought in the Penninsular Campaign and then went back up to defend Richmond but dont' have any reference to specifics.
My great aunt's daughter married Richard Henry's great grandson.. Richard Pemberton Garrett.."Pimie" Garrett. My great great grandfather was James Garrett but I have not been able to verify he is a member of the Caroline Garretts...a frustrating search!
You probably know, too, that some of the Garretts are buried in Enon Baptist Church in Essex...right on the line between the two counties and next to A.P. Hill.
I would love to hear from any of you...It has been a while since I communicated with Ken but we did exchange some family history a few ago.
