Festus Wharton was my great grandfather. He fought in the Caroline Light Artillery along with my other great grandfather, James H. Wright. Festus is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bowling Green and has a confederate gravemarker. We have his pension record but like it was mentioned in another post, the "T" and the "F" from a cursive script are misleading. I know that he was a blacksmith so maybe he was in charge of taking care of the horses. His pension record is the only concrete evidence I have of his service. We have a lot of family oral history that attests to his service and a newspaper article that was headed "Murder in Caroline".... Festus was listed as a confederate veteran who was shot and killed by an unknown person by the well at his farm October 6, 1914.
