Clanton, John Wesley, 12th TX Cav??

Mike G. Thompson,
.
You are correct. These two "John W. Clanton" entries in the Parson's 12th TX Cav, Co B and Gurley's 30th TX Cavalry are the same person.
.
What threw me was the 1900 Mariposa Co CA cen p352 entry that shows his as age 69 MO with wife Nancy ... should have been age 59 MO .. which is a larger than usual age error.. I understand that he and wife Nancy Kelso had 7 ch. ... I still think this John W. Clanton was the gent who that led the 40 deserters through Indian Territory.
.
The Newman Haynes Clanton family of the Clanton Gang, OK Corral fame was found in the 1860 Dallas Co TX cen p353
.
CLANTON, John Wesley Clanton (1841 Missouri; m-Nancy Kelso, 7 ch; 1860 Dallas Co TX cen p353; 1900 Mariposa Co CA, p289; 1910 Mariposa Co CA cen p183; enlisted 1861 Bonham TX in Parson's 12th Cav, Co B, that evolved into Gurley's 30th TX Cav. CSA (Gen. H.E. McCulloch stated Feb 3, 1863 "Capt. Clanton had led 40 deserters through Indian Territory")
