Clanton, John Wesley, 6th TX Cav??

We recently gave his grave a VA marker for the 30th TX Cav. now we find out there were two John W. Clanton's down TX way. We now starting to think he was the one in the 6th that deserted, was caught, made to serve a year with no pay. We have just found his court martial records on footnote.com . Now looking to see if a dishonorable discharge was given to him.

If not, we can change the 30th to 6th on his tombstone, if he was, it looks like we will have to remove all military information from his tombstone. This is the eldest son of Old Man Clanton, of Tombstone fame, no record of him ever going wrong like his brothers and father. Believe the old man also joined the 6th, but was let go because of age.

Really need any help we can get on this matter as I am in big trouble at the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, CA., where I am the civil war researcher past ten years and the tombstone marker for all the Union and CSA boys.

Thank you,
