I read most of the court martial documentation in the file of "John W. Clanton, b-1841 MO" of "Parson's Texas 12th Cavalry." I don't think this kid found in the 1860 Dallas Co TX cen was the "Capt. Clanton" mentioned in my Feb 3, 1864 letter in question.

I hope you "search" for "Clanton" on this message board when you study the "John W. Clanton" in your Santa Rosa CA cemetery. You will remember that I too took a stab at researching a "Capt. Clanton, Clauton" who led 40 deserters through Indian Territory according to a Feb 3, 1864 letter that Gen. H.E. McCullcoh sent to Bourland. I know that Gurley's 30th Cav. was in Indian Territory:
in mid-Jul 1863
Aug 23, 1863
Nov 1, 1863
and the Feb 3, 1864 letter in question that mentions “Capt. Clanton, Clouton.”
