Thank you for the info. I was thinking more in terms of young men crossing into Ky to join Union Regiments. For ordinary Unionist civilians Southern Il must of been interesting because there were some armed CSA irregulars out and about per D. Sutherland's book "the Savage Conflict". I have read at least one OR where the MO State Militia crossed over into Il to attack CSA irregulars. I am no expert on this subject. Was leaving Ten into Il somewhat a case of "out of the fire into the frying pan"?
