And thus you have discovered the myth.
In a recent forum, I was able to show that a Unionist that presented his county in the Georgia Secession Convention was not just a slave owner but a major slave owner in the county. The reaction was interesting. I was called a racist and that it was impossible for one to be a slave owner and a Unionist. It shattered the myth that the war was in sum and total about slavery. I can tell you that the vast majority of the delegates from Walker, Dade, Murray, Chattooga, Gilmer, Catoosa, and Whitfield Counties, Georgia were slave owners and they voted against secession. I am currently researching the delegates from the rest of counties of the Cherokee Nation, Georgia and continuing to see the same trend.
