I was told the story of the dance and its interruption by the Union Cav by a lady who turned 102 ys old this past Aug. She was told about the dance etc by her grandmother who was in attendance. As a little girl, she was told many stories by her grand mother and grand father about the war. She wrote them down in a journal the same day the stories were told to her. Her grandfather passed in 1919 and her grandmother in 1926. I do not have the date of the dance or the arrival of the Union troops. I surmised it was the 1862 incident as the dance took place early in the war and this is the only meeting between the two sides, early in the war, in Little Washington I could find. If the lady was using her memory at this time, I would not be so sure about things. She has given me many other stories from the journal that I've been able to confirm so it seems quite accurate. The Centenarian, a Ms. Louis, is very frail but her mind is sharp. The journal in it's self is a "gold mine" of information. How close was the incident of ladies helping the CSA Cav. soldiers to Little Washington?
