I too have a family connection with this incident. The Major (Holloway) was my GG Granduncle. The little bits and pieces from the individual soldiers, to me, make the history come alive. I teach US History at a local college and I tell my students that history is nothing more that the combined everyday lives of "Just plain folks". I do thank you for what information you have provided. The story told by the "young girl" dancing with the hansom CSA Lt. was mostly about how his spurs got caught in one of her "hoops" and tore her gown so badly that one of the "servants" had to mend it in the Ladies room. She was so embarrassed. Her description of the "fight" was that the "damn Yankees" raided the town and all of their partners ran out to fight, ending the dance. Because of this incident, no more dances were held in Little Washington until after the war. Again, your analysis of first hand accounts is correct. This little 15 yr. old with stars in her eyes saw the fight as an inconvenience to her having a good time.
