I'm a big Wade Hampton fan, too. I had one ancestor in Hampton's Legion Mounted Infantry, Whitaker W. Hackett, and also one in Cobb's Legion Cavalry Battalion, 2nd Lt. Thomas Jordan Dunnahoo, who was under Hampton's command for most of the war. I have a question for you about a man from the 2nd SC Cavalry though. Do you have any additional info about Lt. Thomas A. Jeffers, other than what is found in his compiled service record? The reason I ask is because I believe there is a strong possibilty he may have been assigned as a scout for the Jeff Davis Legion during the Carolinas Campaign. If this is true, then I believe he was the Lt. Jeffries (Jeffers) killed during the action at Swift Creek (NC) on 12 Apr 1865 along with my ancestor, Lt. Tom Dunnahoo of Cobb's Legion Cavalry, as described on page 18 of Wiley C. Howard's Sketch of Cobb Legion Cavalry (http://docsouth.unc.edu/fpn/howard/howard.html). I have never been able to find any proof of a Lt. Jeffries serving in the Jeff Davis Legion and the only officer from this unit killed during the action at Swift Creek was Lt. Charles Metcalfe, as documented in J. Frederick Waring's diary. As far as I can tell, due to not being able to find Thomas A. Jeffers in any of the census records, he did not survive the war.
