Re: 1938; the great hoax?
In Response To: Re: 1938; the great hoax? ()

Whenever I'm not sure of something I will try and put a question mark beside of it.

Originally I had called the Gettysburg National Park Service and spoke to a volunteer and he said yes the 1938 Gettysburg reunion was all made of veterans of the Battle of Gettysburg and again I repeated the question and said are you sure? I think ask him if I could speak to a regular paid NPS Ranger and the ranger told me that most of the 1938 veterans were at the Battle of Gettysburg. I probably should have taken names but I did not.

I would venture to say from what Wikipedia stated it does appear to me as though this is probably is correct from the brief research I've done. However, when you look at the source for the statement "The gathering included approximately 25 veterans of the battle" I fail to find a source backing up this statement for cite #3. Perhaps George can elaborate more on the source used?

I was able to see the source for cite #9 "with a further 1,359 Federal and 486 Confederate attendees"[9] It stated they were Civil War veterans. And it also stated just a handful of survivors met again at Bloody Angle.

Upon looking at cite #1 it states there were 3,500 Civil War veterans in attendance at the 1938 Gettysburg reunion.
