Now it is beginning to look sinister. Why would ex-Confederates want to celebrate the Battle of Gettysburg if they were not participants? And they had to travel much further than the Yankee veterans. There are a lot of places where both sides claimed a victory from time to time. Almost of all of the war was fought in the South. They could have picked a town that was not razed to the ground and celebrated for that reason.
