I realize most people know that the USA did not integrated its armed forces until after WWII. In many ways, the Confederates were ahead of their time in social advancement. I wonder what kind of neighbors (black unionists and black Confederates) made after the War. They were probably just occupied with feeding their families and surviving the Freedman's Bureau.
