"I still believe Blacks fought with the Confederate forces, but in small numbers. Their main contribution to the Confederacy was in man power to build, fix, manufacture, heal, feed, and transport the Confederate Armies"
In the "modern" Army it is widely reported that for every frontline soldier there are 7 to 10 soldiers behind the line to provide support. Now while the soldiers of the War Between the States period did not have to deal with all of the modern electronic of present day soldiers, those soldier still they had to eat, obtain supplies like ammunitions, manpower to build fortifications and recieve medical attentions.
The South with its limited manpower filled those needs with whoever they could.
