I am not arguing for the PC crowd. My opinion is based on the records this books puts forth. The book does not even touch the subject of Black Infantry Regiments/Companies except on the one recorded combat action of a Virginia Black Confederate unit.

My argument is this.

- If the Confederates were serious about creating a large African American military force, it would have to change its strategies. As long as the policy of creating elaborate defensive fortifications to defend cities, harbors and railroads was continued they would never have enough Black men to fill the ranks of an Army Division or Corps.
- The Union Naval Block Aid created a need to manufacture goods and supplies locally, and the only man power in numbers to provide these goods were the African American Slaves and Freemen.
-One Confederate officer provided another clue to why they could not enlist African Americans in large number for combat.... he stated that there were not enough weapons and equipment to arm them. The Confederates were producing weapons, and the men who were doing the work were the Black Slaves and Freemen. But, put them in the front lines and who would do the work?

I still believe Blacks fought with the Confederate forces, but in small numbers. Their main contribution to the Confederacy was in man power to build, fix, manufacture, heal, feed, and transport the Confederate Armies.
