Thank you Mr. Martin. This is consistent with the information I have. Wirt Adams Regiment was in the Battle of Hatchie Bridge, and Company H was apparently there is it shows up in the records except it is given as Oct 5, 63 when it was actually 1862.

This was just a few days before my GG Grandfather was left "near Ripley." Adams' troops were sent across Hatchie Bridge with other units to hold the crossing for the Confederate Army retreating from Corinth. But they met overwhelming Federal forces holding higher ground and were forced to retreat back across the bridge. An alternate route was found backtracking to the Bone Yard Road and thence south to Crum's Mill, through Ruckersville to Ripley. Federal troops inhabited Ripley by October 8. My ancestor was left "near Ripley" on the 10th according to Judge Orlando Davis' diary of events in Ripley.

At that point, Company H may have been either already past Ripley en route to Holly Springs or else they were somewhat behind Federal lines. An interesting suggestion exists on a battle map drawn for the Civil War Trust that shows Adams not retreating across the bridge but rather turning south on the west side of Hatchie River, perhaps going down Essary Springs Road. I don't know if Captain Bowie or anyone else made note of where they were in those days, but I'd love to find out more.
