Very hard to get a handle on.
My GG Grand Father and Two GG Uncles and many Cousins were in it.

A Brief History
It Began as the 1st Regiment Missisisppi Cavalry.
It Soon became known as Writ Adams Regiments, whether offically or unofficially I do not know.
Soon after Vicksburg (July 04th, 1863) Colonel Adams was Promoted and Colonel Woods took over.
It then became Wood's Regiment
You will find in the Official Records the Reguments mentoned by all these names through out the War.

It appears to be some sort of Green Breret, Naval Seals or what ever type of organization.
They did not leave many records and were almost every where doing many things.

In addition to the above, you will find many / some reports that are signed by the Captains of the Individual Companys. Thus - If you do not recognize the Captain's name, you will over look it.

As I say, hard to get a handle on.
