After Vicksburg, especially 1864 on, Woods Regt was often brigaded with the 11th and 17th (consolidated) Mounted Infantry commanded by Col JohnLogan and later by Col John Griffith and other Cav units (Power's, Dumonteill's, et al) I know they were together at battle near Franklin, Miss on the Ebenezer rd in details in the ORs as well as vicinity of Brownsville and Bogue Chitto creek back towards Livingston. It was a Cav brigade but Adams would use the Rackensackers as infantry when his Cav had caught up with the enemy and fixed them in place. Those long rifles and experienced infantry troops would usually hold or close with the enemy while the Cav units would maneuver to flanks and provide pursuit or cover in a withdrawal. Many times the enemy thought they were dealing with Cav and it quite surprised and worried them when they met an infantry force giving them worries more infantry was nearby.
