Re: Welsh Plantation
In Response To: Re: Welsh Plantation ()

The progression of U.S. Gen Dwight is as such:
5.13=Osborne Plantation= W.H and his brother John (Ipresume Latanier area)
5.14, 8:30 a.m. =1 mile below Staffords Plantation ( I presume Thomas Jefferson Stafford, my assumption only)
On this date Dwight's rear ( Cpt. William S. Hinkle 1st Ind. Heavy Artillery) is pushed in... there is also enemy (c.s.a.) from the Red River extending Southwards to a lake, or marsh.Dwight clearly states that the enemy is between him and Wilsons.
5.14=the advance of the Union (Gen. Emory ?) is building a bridge (pontoon) over Choctaw Bayou...It is my understanding that on La 1 today upon leaving the Egg Bend area one crosses (East bound) German Bayou, Choctaw Bayou, 5th Ward, and then Choctaw Bayou again...Which Choctaw Bayou is the pontoon placed at, and, is this the same location of Gen. Banks (Choctaw Bayou) on 5.15.?
When the Confederate force departs the area of Dunns Bayou, in the front of this Union advance, Col. Chisum retreats on the Cheneyville road. The Confederate commander (either Steele or Baylor, can't remember off hand) returns to that same area and posted pickets at Comptons. I would assume that Comptons is around the Dunns Bayou area. (Peter B. or S.L. ? )
Is the Cheneyville road the Chenyville-Echo Road of today ?
Gen. Richard Taylor is clearly trying to stall the Union by making him depoly and fight, while he (Taylor) waits for a force Lt. Gen. K.Smith does not send in time.
It appears as though the Plantation order from Alexandria-Echo would be Osborne =Latanier area,, Stafford= 1 mile below,, Wilson = near Wilson Point, Comptons=near Egg Bend...but again I'm only presuming. I can only guess as to their owners name also.
One would think a location such as Lodi Plantation , the 1st Louisiana Cavalry HDQRTS of 1865, would stick out like a sore thumb.
If you can answer all these questions, then I have one more...(lol) who hanged William LLoyd of LLoyd's Hall.and what date ?
