Re: Welsh Plantation
In Response To: Re: Welsh Plantation ()

The schedule for Sugar Cane Planters and their Productions for the years 1851-52 lists Michael Welch on the Red River below Alexandria on the right side of the river. The 1860 slave schedule lists the same. The sugar schedule also lists Levi Wilson on the Red River below Alexandria on the right of the river. The 1860 slave schedule lists the same.

The same schedule also lists:
Mrs. H. F. Overton of Lodi Plantation on Bayou Robert, the right and left side. (The 1860 slave schedule lists her name as Harriet Overton, Bayou Robert, right and left bank.)

M. and T.J. Wells, Wellswood Plantation, on Bayou Boeuf on the left. (The 1860 slave schedule lists Martha and Jeanette Wells, Wellswood, Bayou Boeuf, left bank, Meeker.) (Also, the 1860 slave schedule lists separately J. J. Wells, Bayou Boeuf and Lamourie, near Chambers.) (The 1860 slave schedule lists separately James M. Wells, no other info given.)

C.H. Flower and Sister and Linton on Bayou Boeuf, left side. Also, Charles H. Flower on Bayou Boeuf, on left and right. (The 1860 slave schedule lists Charles Flower, Bayou Boeuf, right and left bank.)

FYI, Thomas Jefferson Stafford was not the father of Brig. Gen. Leroy Stafford. The parents of Brig. Gen. Leroy Stafford were Leroy Stafford and Elizabeth Susan Calliham, and their plantation was Greenwood, located on Bayou Boeuf, about a mile NW of Cheneyville in Rapides Parish. The above mentioned 1851-52 sugar schedule also lists L. A. Stafford on Bayou Boeuf on the right side. The 1860 slave schedule lists Leroy Stafford, Greenwood, Bayou Boeuf, right bank. I do not know the identity of Thomas Jefferson Stafford or where he owned a plantation.

Regards--
