To show that OR reports are NOT the last word and that if the 10th Illinois colonel did not get specific about who took the flag at Sikeston then he is in great company with loads of OR reports that are often vague or even never mention a flag capture at all when the unit in question indeed did in a certain battle.

The start of the Island Number Ten Campaign as all of the books and essays, etc. clearly state. Pope marched from Commerce, MO to Sikestown and then from there to New Madrid. All part of the campaign.

Because I had not yet found one of them for one (the Springfield paper) and forgot that I had the other in a file in the CS officers HQ files under Thompson HQ Flag for another which I found when I checked for something else. I have already clearly stated that I had already made copies of these for you and they sit on a shelf with the 7th Texas flag article to be sent to you. I then spent time making sure that my file for the Island No. Ten Campaign had everything in it which I pulled from numerous files that I had as well as the finding of the new flags from the online newspaper search. Stop making this sound like some vast conspiracy to deny information from you. I share everything I get with you and you know it.
