The Civil War Flags Message Board

Re: Jeff Thompson's Missouri Legion

Anthony,

Civil War book writers are not into flags for the most part and so tend to ignore them.

The late Howard Madaus had a theory that the flag in Little Rock with the "AR" in the white bar, which was sent to Arkansas from Michigan in the 1940sw (if I have that date right) might be a flag from New Madrid. He based this on looking into where Michigan and Arkansas units faced each other in 1862 and the only campaign he found was the Island Number Ten Campaign. So maybe this is the 11th Arkansas flag or maybe the 12th Arkansas flag or some other flag from the campaign.

What do you think?
