The letter mentioning the flag was from the grand daughter of Edward Sylla's brother in 1960 and it was handed down through the family as being taken in the Island Number Ten Campaign. I have never seen anything by Sylla mentioning it. He was no longer with the regiment in 1864 so that is why that article probably makes no mention of it.

I am going to Springfield, IL in late March for work and will go in a day early and check the Illinois newspapers for the 10th Illinois letters from this time frame and see if there is anything on the flag from close to when it was taken.
