The flag you describe is one of those for Zacariah Deas' Alabama Brigade - solid blue field with solid white St. George's cross. I suspect that these were taken from older French imperial flags as southern Alabama, where Deas was from as well as most of his units, was French once upon a time (Mardi Gras was invented in Mobile). Deas also spent time in France. Why he went with pre-Revolutionary colors is beyond me for the inspiration but he was also part of Polk's Corps I believe and those flags may also have been the inspiration. We have not found a paper trail for them sadly.
