Gene, the officer is John Wesley Walker, of Ouachita County. He was born in Alabama c1827, married Winnifred J. Thompson. He initially served as first lieutenant of (old) Co. C, 15th (Gee/Johnson) Arkansas Infantry; resigned his commission in August 1862; then enlisted in Co. A, 10th (aka Crawford's 1st) Arkansas Cavalry, at Camden on January 12, 1863, and was elected captain. He was promoted to major on December 30, 1863, apparently serving to the end of the war. He died on October 24, 1904, and was interred in Buena Vista Cemetery in Ouachita County. His widow applied for an Arkansas Confederate pension in 1913 (Pension No. 8606, approved August 12, 1913).
