The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Charles Bolivar (C.B.) Humphries of White Coun

The "subsequent roll" I was referring to in this case is the Regimental Return for the Month of September [1862], dated October 6, 1862, at Camp near Des Arc; but you point out an interesting fact about the 36th Arkansas, i.e., the unusually long gap in surviving muster rolls between the initial muster-in rolls, July 18-19, 1862, and the March/April 1863 rolls. Not sure why the 36th Arkansas is missing so many rolls during this period. Most of the other 30-series regiments seem to have a few surviving rolls during this period. Colonel McRae seems to have been a stickler for proper procedures, but I don't know much about Colonel Davie, who succeeded McRae in November 1862. Or maybe some higher level of command dropped the ball and failed to forward the rolls to the War Department.
