That is all well and good, but I have no way of verifing with the original 1st Sargeants records.
In Giles Taylors packet from the National Archives there are 5 cards in his file for the 3rd Arkansas, transcribed by an M. Sallade.
These cards are Nov/Dec.'62, Jan/Feb'63, Mar/Apr.'63, May/June'63, and finally July/Aug.'63. All are clearly stated that Giles was Present.
His May-June card says at that time he was paid to Apr. 30th,'63.
The July-August card states that Giles Taylor was last paid on June 30th, 1863. So there should be a corresponding pay record at least to June 30th, two days before the 3rd fought at Gettysburg. But that would also seem to indicate that someone checked his pay records on August 30th, '63 to make that entry on his service record, as he would have been due two more months pay at that time.
