I obtained the military records from a officer in the 1st TX who who fought at the Devil's Den and was captured on the following day. There are 29 pages, but a lot of it is administrative stuff like payroll and clothing rations. Nevertheless, the records show he was captured on 3 July 1863, sent to Ft. Delaware (cause he was disguised as a private) and he escapted between July 7th and 12th. The next muster roll for him is July 1864. I may never know when he returned to his unit. Never know if he fought at Chickamauga, for example.

We will probably find all our answers when we go to Judgement and it does not matter anymore.
