I did a quick visual scan of Co. "I", last night from the information that you published of the muster roll of the 3rd, and my Gg Grandfather Giles Taylor is the only one whose record just disappears without explaination during that time in that company. Almost everybody else has some viable explaination as to why they were dropped from the rolls. There were several records that showed men being dropped from the rolls after July 1862 but most of that was because of the 2nd Arkansas Batt wounded, who did not return to the 3rd.

There are quite a few in Co. "I" that were listed as captured at Gettysburg which indicates that they were involved in the heavy fighting at Devils Den, and if Simpson's Compendium information were correct that Giles disappeared from the records after June 30th, 1863, that would be an explaination that he disappeared as an unknown in Rose's Woods on the fields at Gettysburg. But since I do have a card from the National Archives that says he was "present for duty" in July and August 1863. I have concentrated my attentions on Chickamauga.

From what I can surmize from just that quick examination there just weren't very many men left in that company by Chickamauga.
