Sadly, there are just too many unknown unmarked graves scattered in those same Graveyards to fill in all the gaps. And will we ever known how many were buried on the battlefield itself? I know that the practise was to buried the dead pretty much in place, and supposedly that all those were removed at a later date. It all comes back to what little Information is contained in official reports and 1st Sargeant incomplete information that they simply did not know what happened to those men.

Has anybody every run a list of those men who disappeared from the CSR's between August, 31st and October 31st, 1863 to see what the demographics of such a list would look like?
