Ken JonesMuskmellons? and Lockett's Co.Tue Feb 6 15:29:43 2001 To further muddy the waters, I have information on one member of this unit, Lockett's Co., James Henry Mathews, who was serving as a mounted courier for the unit, and who was imprisoned outside of Selma and released, 9 April 1865. While being released, he was reportedly killed by a "muskmellon." Only muskmellon I know of is a fruit, not a deadly weapon. Any other explanations?Lucius J. Lockett, PACS Alan J.
