Lucius J. Lockett was born in 1822 in Virginia. He was a veteran of the Mexican War having served as a private in Company D (Eutaw Rangers)of the First Regiment of Alabama Volunteers. The regiment served for a year in Texas and Mexico. In 1860, he was living in Marion, Alabama where he operated a grocery store. He enlisted in Company F of the 20th Alabama Infantry Regiment and served as Captain of that company but resigned his commission on August 2, 1862 and was replaced by William H. Shepherd. Lockett owned eight slaves in 1860. William H. Shepherd was from Marion, Alabama too. Shepherd was born in 1834 in Tennessee and was an ordained Methodist Episcopal Minister of the Gospels. After replacing Lockett, Shepherd resigned himself five months later on December 22, 1862. He owned two slaves in 1860.
Beyond this, I know not.
