Please tell me if you know why a man living in Noxubee County, Mississippi when the war began would join the 24th Alabama Infantry. Especially, it's a mystery to me why he would do so when he was originally from Bibb County. How did a man decide which unit to join?
Also please tell me where an injured soldier would be sent after the amputation of a leg during the Battle of Chickamauga? Was there a hospital close to Chickamauga or would he be sent further south toward Mobile?
How long would it take a soldier to recuperate and be fitted with a wooden leg?
Please tell me where such hospital might have been. Also I need verification that John Hinah Dew was in the 24th Alabama Infantry. It just seems strange to me. Thank you.
