You need to visit the Alabama State Archives in Montgomery. They have some, but not all of the original company muster roles of each regiment.

Most were brought back to the state in trunks by the officers in charge at the end. Alabama faired relatively well int his regard. (Most of the Virginia records were lost and destroyed.)

They are laminated and legible since the person with the best penmanship was selected to be the company clerk. They are extremely well ordered graphs in preprinted form. It has every battle and every soldier. There are key codes stipulating the condition and results of the battle relative to each soldier.

If you go to the census and confederate veterans records to pinpoint your realtive first, the muster roles can be a virtual gold mine of detailed information. They will let you sit there and study them as long as you like.

You are going to have a harder time finding info on those hospitals.
