From Brewer's history of Alabama: "The 24th Alabama Infantry Regiment was organized at Mobile in August 1861, with men from Clarke, Mobile, Pickens, Shelby, and Talladega counties."

Perhaps he joined with cousins from Pickens or Shelby Counties, both nearby neighboring counties to Bibb. And, Pickens adjoins Noxubee. What company was he in? The Pickens Co. company was Company C. If I recall correctly, this company was recruited from all over the county. This was unusual, at least in Pickens County. Most were filled from within a certain locality in the county. It may be possible that some men were even recruited from the adjoining counties.

It is my understanding that most all the injured Confederates from the Battle of Chickamauga were taken to Marietta to the hospital there. Some my have been taken to Atlanta. It is possible that he was later transferred to another hospital as the Union Army advanced into Atlanta.
