Alan PittsCamp BeauregardFri Dec 22 11:36:40 2000 Brewer's Cavalry Battalion organized at Camp Beauregard, Mayfield, Kentucky, on December 15, 1861. The battalion included five companies at that time, two of which were from Kentucky. Another was from Louisiana and the other two were from Tennessee. The battalion commander was Major Richard Henry Brewer, formerly a lieutenant on the staff of General Polk. I don't recall any other Alabama command at Camp Beauregard; the 1st Confederate Cavalry included two Alabama companies that served with it for a short time. However, that command did not organize until April 1, 1862, and probably was not at Camp Beauregard. You may be referring to King's Kentucky Battalion which was the basis of the 1st Confederate.
