Here's a little of what I have:

40th Alabama Infantry Regiment

Nicknames:

“Coleman’s Regiment”
(Vice-Col. A.A. Coleman resigned to rank on 4/30/1863.)

“The Alabama Sharpshooters”
(Nickname is said to have been earned 5/22/1863 at Vicksburg.)

(see also the 37th Alabama Infantry Consolidated)

First mustered on March 13, 1862 at Speed’s Mill.

Engagements: Chickamauga, Vicksburg, Missionary Ridge, Lookout Mountain, skirmishes from Dalton to Atlanta including New Hope, and Bentonville.

Company B
LEDBETTER, Richard Baxter (Originally from S.C. Enlisted in Pickens Co. Captured & paroled at Vicksburg. Died after 1875.)

I don't have Asbury Ledbetter listed, but that does not mean that he was not in the 40th. (But, see below.) As does Homer, I recommend Willet's diary for much more information. I also recommend another book, but I can't remember the title/author off the top of my head. I'll have to look it up and post the information. It has much information on the 40th's companies B and G (also from Pickens County).

41st Alabama Infantry Regiment

Company D
LEDBETTER, Asbury (Enlisted at age 34.)

Company D was formed from the Pickens Grays (Alabama Volunteer Corps).
