A couple of clarifications.

Men from every company, including musicians, were paroled at Vicksburg. I don't know just how many from each company were paroled there, but a quick look through the "A's" and "S's" yielded at least one man from each company and a musician.

I think that the name Alabama Sharpshooters came before Stone's Battalion. I don't have my file right now to give specifics, but an event occurred at Vicksburg on the date that I gave in which the regiment is referred to as the Alabama Sharpshooters. The only question is whether they earned it on that date, or before.

Also, a number of plates (appear to be cartridge belt plates or cross belt plates) have appeared on the collector's market. These say "Vicksburg Alabama Sharpshooters". If these are real, as they have been represented, then the men at Vicksburg were called "Alabama Sharpshooters".

I have been looked for information on the consolidations. One of my files is missing, so I haven't found much, yet. I have found one reference to the 40th Consolidating with the 37th. I'll send all the information when I find my missing file.

I don't believe that Willet is the source of my information on the formation at Speed's Mill. That information comes from sources local to Pickens Co. (where Speed's Mill is located). I have only used Willet for names, not event information. Perhaps the regiment was first organized at Speed's Mill, then reorganized when it reached Mobile.

Stone's Battalion was apparently an official designation, as it appears by that name in the O.R.'s.
