40TH and 46TH Ala. Inf.

Hayes, Do you have any information that the 46TH was surrendered as a separate regiment? They well may have also been consolidated into the 19TH as was the 40TH as Col. M.L.Woods of the 46TH became the Col. of the 19TH at the consolidation according to Captain S.H. Sprott of the 40TH/19TH. I suspect that they may have been the source of the additional mysterious men that I found records for listed with the 19TH in the Consolidated Service Records.I will be carefull not to make this judgement without evidence, but I think it is well worth exploring.

I have a copy of the "book" that Ms. Bloomquist published about the 40TH and I find it very much lacking in research and accuracy. Basicly it is a regimental roster of the men that are listed in the Compiled Service Records. It only has 5 pargraphs of information concerning the history of the regiment. There were many more men that were in the regiment that have no record with the National Archives that I have identified. It is not ment to be a comprehensive history of the regiment, but it is good for what it is. Ms. Bloomquist was kind enough to me so let me have the last copy of this very limited publication that she had as she was intending to keep it, but upon learning of my research, she graciously sent a copy to me. I refer to the roster in making my notes. It is, however not without a few errors. Of course, I have been accused of being a perfectionest among other sometimes unprintable things.

Henry
