Mr. Spikes,

This is a Confederate unit.

I first recommend "A Fit Representation of Pandemonium: East Tennessee Confederate Soldiers in the Campaign for Vicksburg," by William D. Taylor. It covers the 43rd and the other East Tennessee units during this time period.

I thumbed through the bibliography real quick and here is another title:

"East Tennessee's Forgotten Soldiers: The Forty-Third Tennessee Infantry Regiment, CSA," by Donn Patton Brooks, Westpump Publishers, 1995.

I am sure there are more of individual soldiers in the bibliography but they are not identified by individual units.

You will also want to contact Polk County and see what they have.

I hope this helps.

Respectfully,
