Thanks for the information! I have the sites you gave me and have found a lot of information on them! Most of the time I can't get into them and when I do I copy everything I can and have time for!

Librarian said that Chicago might have the records. Might have to do a day trip or two to see what they have. Also she said Rock Island arsenal might have something and since they opened a new military research section...it's worth a try. Our library has a list of confederate dead from Rock Island...just names...if any one needs a look up.

I have made contact with one of the guys' grandson and found out why someone from Il. joined a TN Unit! His reason was simular to what I had thought. I also don't think the two others I am looking for....Frederick Odum and Reuben Howard deserted.

I found a Memphis paper that is suppose to have information about the flags in it. It copied 33 pages and haven't read all of them yet...it might have both deserters and the company flag!
