Ooops, thought I'd corrected this. On second look, I believe the War Department copiest miscopied and the date of the muster should be Sept 6-1862. Then again, Capt. Sansom's card for this same period records the same remark, he was mustered into service July 29, 1861.

On further thought, as his single card records him in Capt. James L. Sansom's Company, 8th Regiment Mississippi Vols. [This company was successively designated as Captain Sansom's Company,(Old) Company H, and (New) Company E, 8th Regiment Mississippi Infantry], I'm going to go with 1861. What do you think?
