Re: Bay St Louis Oct 5 1863
I have from H Company 9th Connecticut Day book that 3 companies of the 9th under Capt Sawyer arrived by schooner to rescue 3 9th Connecticut men being held in the town of Bay St Louis. The were attacked by appox 160 Confederate Cavalry. They killed a Confederate captain and 7 enlisted men. They recovered the 3 men but lost 3 of their own who were captured and eventually wound up in Andersonville where 2 died. 6 men were wounded and 3 of those died of their wounds. I have done google searches etc and come up blank. I think this is the first skirmisjh Ive come across that didnt make it in the books. Any clue as to what Confederate Cavalry would have operated in that area? I checked the source another poster mentioned but no good.
